Symptoms

Call us when you see any of this.

Any one of these is worth a phone call today rather than next week — most of them get more expensive the longer the system keeps running.

Running but not cooling Warm air at the vents Ice on the coil or line Breaker keeps tripping Water around the air handler Outdoor unit humming, fan still Short cycling on and off Bill jumped for no reason Burning or musty smell Thermostat says one thing, house says another
The visit

What a diagnostic actually covers.

A real diagnosis is a set of readings, not a guess at a part. This is the checklist on every repair call, and you get the numbers whether you approve the work or not.

Refrigerant circuitSuction and liquid pressures, superheat and subcooling — the readings that tell us whether you have a leak or an airflow problem.
AirflowFilter, coil, blower wheel and static pressure. Most “the AC is weak” calls end here, not at the compressor.
ElectricalCapacitors under load, contactor, amp draw against nameplate, wiring and disconnect. Weak capacitors are the cheapest failure to catch early.
ControlsThermostat calibration, staging, safeties and float switch — the parts that shut a system down to protect it.
DrainagePan, primary and secondary drain, trap. In a 140° attic a clogged drain becomes a ceiling stain fast.
Coil conditionIndoor and outdoor coil cleanliness. A dirty condenser costs capacity and shortens compressor life every August.
What happens when you call

Four steps, no surprises.

  1. A Cowboy's technician greeted at a San Antonio front door
    01 / We show up

Licensed, background-checked, named, on time, in a marked truck.

  2. Technician metering an outdoor condenser unit
    02 / We diagnose

Pressures, temperatures, airflow, electrical — on the equipment you actually have.

  3. Technician showing options to homeowners at their kitchen table
    03 / We show you

The number in writing before a wrench turns. Repair or replace, both cases honestly.

  4. Technician shaking hands with homeowners beside a Cowboy's truck
    04 / We finish clean

Re-checked with you standing there, site cleaner than we found it.

Frequently asked

Repair questions, answered straight.

More of them, with numbers, on the questions page →

How fast can you get here?

Dispatch answers 24/7 from Blanco Road and same-day is normal in cooling season. You get a real window, not “sometime today.”

What do most repairs cost?

Most land between $150 and $600 depending on the part — a capacitor at the low end, a blower motor or coil at the high end. You approve the number first.

Do you fix it on the first visit?

Most of the time, yes — the trucks carry the parts that fail most often here. If something has to be ordered we tell you the same day and get you cooling in the meantime where we can.

Will you try to sell me a new system?

No. Our technicians are paid the same whether they repair or replace. If a repair buys you three more summers, that is what we will recommend.

My system uses R-22 — can you still fix it?

Usually. R-22 has not been produced since 2020, so it now comes from reclaimed supply and a leak gets expensive. We will tell you plainly when repairing it stops making financial sense.
